IDF Senior officers wonder: “Where did the tapes from October 7, that were to be used in post-war investigation of the course of events, disappear?”
During a visit of IDF senior officers it’s been found that the CCTV footage along the border from October 7 had gone missing. Important recordings from Hamas attack on that Saturday have also been removed from the database. “It’s suspicious, there’s a sense that everyone is covering for their asses.”
During a visit by senior officers from the IDF General Staff to the various divisions’ headquarters, senior reserve officers remarked that a “missing hand” had bothered to delete videos from the IDF’s various surveillance cameras along the Gaza border and from the military network, from the day of Hamas attack on October 7 – in order to prevent an in-depth investigation by these officers into what happened on that day in the Palestinian territory, also during the intrusions of the border, and in the whole area.
Amir Bohbot from Walla News reports:
“We sat down with one of the major-generals and were going to show him a video of one of the events, and we found out that someone had deleted the videos,” a senior reserve officer from one of the divisions said, adding, “It was very embarrassing. Then there was the suspicion of why to do it. And finally the excuses began that it was decided to give special permissions to those who ask. Do officers in our ranks need permissions? It looks like a war of generals and officials. Everyone is trying to to cover their ass for the day after.”
Elements in Gaza-border division said there was also a “jamming” of the communication recordings from October 7. According to them, “some of the recordings disappeared or were simply removed from the network and transferred to another location under the direction of commanders. We can’t hear them. Communication recordings are deleted after a certain period, unless someone wants to keep them in the system, there is such a function. Someone decided to move or delete them so no one would hear. The recordings? They tell the whole story. What happened. What do we do. Especially the first 8 hours. Including the moments when there was really no one to talk to.”
IDF spokesman’s response: No videos were deleted from the operational systems after the events of October 7. The videos are blocked to people without permission, in order to prevent viewing out of curiosity and voyeurism. In addition, the videos are all reserved for the sake of the in-depth investigation that will be carried out on the subject, by relevant parties.
Our take: You bet, who will be the investigators?
