Alert Squads – How Civilians, Armed And Organized, Saved Their Communities From A Massacre on October 7

The story the MSM don’t tell you.

A story of determination and perseverance, and yes, a victory.

Not all kibbutzs / moshavs were taken-over by Hamas and their residents slaughtered or abducted on Oct 7 attack. In a significant number of them, the Alert Squad thwarted the attack and saved the lives of the population, in other cases they were able to reduce the number of casualties – DESPITE they’ve been stripped of their long weapons in recent years, and their defense capabilities reduced by the IDF. In many cases, they fought a ferocious and long battle, waiting in vain for the army to arrive, feeling abandoned.

What is an Alert Squad?

An alert squad is a local limited security force, designed to act quickly while responding to a security event until additional forces arrive. It is composed of community residents on voluntary basis. They are weapon-trained and have a routine practice. It has a security coordinator who is paid (as part-time job) by the Ministry of Defense.

On Oct 7 attack, they had a crucial role in thwarting the terrorists and saving many lives in their communities. They fought long battles alone with no military support, because the IDF was absent for many hours, and any military intervention was an independent initiation of soldiers police units on the locality or Ex-soldiers coming from home voluntarily.

Here are some of their stories.

Kibbutz Zikim: The terrorists arrived at the outskirts of the kibbutz and planned to launch an R.P.G missile and get inside. The Alert Squad opened fire on them and managed to disrupt their plans. The attackers threw grenades and explosive devices inside, but were stopped. Two members of the Alert Squad were injured.

Kibbutz Yad-Mordechai: Members of the Alert Squad went toward the terrorists that arrived at the junction at the entrance to the kibbutz, and opened fire on them. The Hamas attackers fled to Sderot city, the kibbutz was saved, with no injuries.
Now the IDF demand that they return their weapons to the army.

Kibbutz Erez: Members of the Alert squad were able to identify the approaching terrorists, were well deployed around the kibbutz and waged a shooting battle against the attackers for hours. Amir Naeem (27) was killed.

The kibbutz was saved after a fierce exchange of fire between the terrorists and members of the Alert Squad. “We identified the terrorists and engaged in a close-range firefight,” said Ben Sadan, one of the squad members, and former security coordinator. “Grenades were thrown, R.P.G’s, there was a crazy shooting.”

Sadan said that when the incident began, he reported on it to the army. “We’ve been asking for rescue for a long time. At the same time, I also asked for the help of Kibbutz Or-Haner’s Alert Squad, who arrived quickly. They helped us and together we fought the terrorists. There were between 15 and 20 terrorists,” he said.

Kibbutz Nir-Am: The terrorists reached as far as the kibbutz hatchery outside the perimeter fence. Under the command of Inbal Rabin-Lieberman (26), the squad security coordinator, members of the Alert Squad were held in time in their positions, and opened fire on the attackers. With the help of small force of soldiers and later reinforcement, they prevented their entry to the kibbutz. At least 30 dead terrorists’ bodies were found later near the hatchery.

She recalls, “Without brushing my teeth, I get on my uniform and put the gun on. I run to the armory, open it. Immediately begin handing out weapons to members of the alert squad. I said, “Go fight.”

At around 7 a.m., members of the Alert Squad take up positions on the kibbutz fence, and Inbal exits the armor. “On the way, I see the guy in charge of the infrastructure in the kibbutz and he says to me, ‘I’m going to turn on the generator because the electricity has gone out and people in the secure-unit have no electricity. And then I tell him, ‘You don’t,’ because I realize that’s what keeps us safe. The gates are closed and no matter how hard you try they won’t open. If the gate was open, the terrorists would have entered.”

“We were basically a very small force,” Lieberman explains. “We couldn’t really control the entire area. There were only 12 members in the Alert Squad. I paired them in two, placed them in positions that were strategic, so that we could see as much as possible and control as many areas as possible in the kibbutz, but in fact we didn’t really have control over the entire fence. We didn’t know for sure that we didn’t have a terrorist inside the kibbutz.”

“There was no contact with anyone either,” she continues. “The Northern Brigade did not respond.”

The soldiers Matan Abargil and Roman Gendel were killed in the battle.

Kibbutz Mefalsim: About 30 terrorists raided the kibbutz and set up near its three gates. Members of the Alert Squad and several officers who live on the kibbutz killed three terrorists. The squad members fought the attackers for four hours until the army forces arrived. Alon Shuster, the kibbutz member and current MP, said: it was “A battle for life-or-death, with limited ammunition and zero reserve forces. The terrorists move around, in group of eight, a dozen, arrived at the dairy farm, return with kidnapped Thais. Shots were fired and the Thai workers were released.”

Kibbutz Magen: The terrorists reached the kibbutz fence and blew it up. The Alert Squad fought against them a fierce battle for 7 hours, just 20-30 meters from their homes line. Dozens of terrorists better armed, with R.P.G’s and grenades, invaded the Kibbutz. One of the squad members, Avi Fleischer, was killed.

Ohad Drazmann, deputy coordinator of Kibbutz Magen Alert Squad describes the events of October 7 attack, when the they thwarted the attack all by themselves:

We realized that the IDF wouldn’t come and that we were alone. There were helicopters up here. It was crazy. There were helicopters that didn’t fire. There was a helicopter hovering… We didn’t get help. I don’t have an explanation for that. A helicopter from above has to do the job, and that hasn’t happened.”

Moshav Ein-Habsor: A few months month ago, completely coincidentally, Moshav Ein Habsor near Gaza Strip decided to set up an Alert Squad in order to protect the Moshav from a surge in car thefts. The squad grew to consists of 78 members, and every night a team of 5-7 of them patrolled the fence around the Moshav to prevent thefts and provide security to the residents. “The army took most of our weapons a few years ago because of theft concerns.” Said Raz Shapira, a member of the squad.

On Saturday Oct 7, immediately after the missiles started, the squad security coordinator made a spontaneous decision to urge the entire extended Alert Squad to their positions near the perimeter fence. Within a few minutes, a number of terrorist vehicles began to arrive and there was a long and hard battle with tremendous fire inferiority on the side of the Moshav members, who were using almost only hand guns, but managed to thwart the attack.

Moshavs Shlomit and Prigan: Yishuv Shlomit Alert Squad security ccordinator heard the voices on the communication network and rushed to urge the squad members to get to the nearby Yishuv Peri-Gan, which Hamas terrorists had infiltrated. Four residents of Shlomit were killed in the battles to save their neighbors in Pri-Gan. They fought for four hours in the streets of Pri-Gan against heavy shooting and grenades of the attackers, before army forces arrived.

Kibbutz Alumim: After long hours of fighting, few against many, Kibbutz Alumim Alert Squad managed to repel the terrorists who had infiltrated the kibbutz and save the hundreds of residents. In the afternoon, the army arrived, and when everyone thought the battle was over, another terrorist group entered the kibbutz. “If we hadn’t been able to stop them on the home line, everything would have looked different.

Kibbutz Re’im: Members of the kibbutz’s Alert Squad, a total of six people, waged gun battles against more than a hundred terrorists. There were five dead and five kidnapped.

Kibbutz Ein-Hashlosha: Members of the alert squad, about 15, fought against the terrorists for six hours until the IDF arrived. Four people were killed, one of them, Rami Negbi (57), was the Alert Squad coordinator.

Kibbutz Sufa: There were three fatalities, including a member of the Alert Squad, Ido Khubra (36). About 12 terrorists invaded the area, and the Alert Squad fought them for hours until the army arrived.

These are not all of them, there are others like Gevim, Yesha, Mivtakhim, Sa’ad, Or-Haner…

The reason why the MSM don’t report on this is probably because they are part of the attack on the second amendment (which Israel doesn’t have) and the ability of ordinary people to defend their families, communities and neighborhoods from crime, violence, violent radicalism, terror, etc…
